Over 400,000 Hyundai Vehicles Recalled for Possible Fire Starting Issues

Diamond Kelley3 months ago

430,000 Hyundai cars are being recalled for possible electric shortage and engine fire mishaps due to water seepage.

Description of Hyundai Recall

Hyundai issued a voluntary recall of hundreds of thousands of cars that may have a defect that allows water to seep into the antilock braking computer, leading to serious problems that could cause engine fires.

Automakers announced the amount of instances of actual fires were extremely low. Yet, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been investigating several models of Hyundai vehicles over the years.

In April 2019, the NHTSA collected data that Hyundai and Kia cars totaled around 3,100 incidents of fire and 103 consumer injuries. There have been 3 official reports of fire as to date with Hyundai cars in this latest recall of vehicles.

Facts and Solutions of the Hyundai Problem

  • Problems with the Hyundai and Kia engine have affected over 6 million vehicles since 2015 according to the NHTSA.
  • Collectively, 2.4 million vehicles have been recalled for engine and brake repair.
  • The latest recall does not involved engine failure and is primarily concerned with water seepage issues leading to fires.
  • Vehicles recalled: 2006-2011 Elantra and 2007-2011 Elantra Touring.
  • Dealers can install a relay in the main electrical junction box to stop short circuiting.
