Swiss Rolls Under Multiple Brand Names Recalled for Salmonella Concerns
Flowers Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled Swiss Rolls sold under several brand names due to the possibility of salmonella contamination.
About the Recalled Swiss Rolls
The possibly contaminated Swiss Rolls were sold under the brand names Mr.Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, Market Square, and Great Value. These products were distributed nationally.
Swiss Rolls under the brand name Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
A third-party whey powder manufacturer initiated the recall due to potential salmonella contamination in whey powder, an ingredient in Swiss Rolls. Thus far, no illnesses have been reported due to the Swiss Rolls.
The recommended remedy is to discard the products, or return it to the company for a full refund.
The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1.2 million illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations, and 450 deaths in the United States occur due to salmonella every year.
The CDC recommends cooking poultry, ground beef, and eggs completely in order to prevent salmonella poisoning. Make sure to wash hands, utensils, and kitchen surfaces thoroughly while cooking with raw meat. The CDC also recommends washing hands after handling reptiles, and birds.
