The woman injured in the pursuit was taken to a nearby hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Police have not released her identity.
Officers also arrested the driver of the Mazda, identified as Willie Wright, 27 of Rock Hill. Wright has been charged with multiple counts including felony speed to elude, felony hit and run causing serious injury, possession of a stolen car, driving 130 mph in a 65 mph zone, and other misdemeanors. Wright is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
PursuitSAFETY estimates that crashes caused by police pursuits kill more than one person each day; approximately one-third of those victims are innocent bystanders. The organization also notes that 42.3% of police chases are for traffic violations.
