Two separate fatal crashes in Houston have left several people injured and caused two deaths this weekend.
Details of the First Fatal Crash in Houston
According to reports, the first crash took place on the entrance ramp to the North Freeway from 610 North Loop around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019, when the driver of a gray BMW exited the ramp and swerved outside his lane.
The swerving vehicle struck a Jeep Cherokee that was disabled on the shoulder ramp and three of the five pedestrians who were standing in a grassy area nearby. One of the victims, a 52-year-old woman, was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The other two victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The BMW driver, Lawrence W. Franklin, 41, remained at the scene where police determined he was impaired and charged him with intoxication manslaughter.
Details of the Second Fatal Crash In Houston
The second crash took place in the 6700 block of South Freeway around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when a black Chevrolet Tahoe ran a red light and struck a motorcycle at the intersection of the South Freeway service road.
The driver of the motorcycle was uninjured, but the 31-year-old woman who had been riding on the back of the Harley Davidson was killed. The driver of the Tahoe fled the scene.
