Company Fined for Construction Accident
According to reports, on July 15, at 7:00 a.m., a 28-year-old worker for Maggiora & Ghilotti Inc. was killed in a tragic construction accident in Petaluma, California.
Jared Overfield was working on a project on Highway 101 that involved replacing a water pipe near a frontage road where Petaluma Boulevard South and Kastania Road connect.
He was assisting the operator of a forklift transport 40-foot, 8,000-pound concrete-coated steel pipe when the pipe rolled down a hill, crushing Overfield. Officials say that the pipe was not properly secured to the forklift.
California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health fined Maggiora & Ghilotti Inc. for $38,250 for failing to provide proper safety precautions for the workers. This is the third time that the Cal/OSHA has cited this company.
