Crash Kills Mother of Four
The mother of four young Richfield girls died in a car crash in the South Metro.
Details about the Fatal Accident
Clint and Sara Ward were heading west in a Chevrolet Malibu when they turned south into the Lakeville Crossings shopping center and right into the path of an oncoming SUV. The Malibu was struck on the passenger side, killing Sara instantly.
Lakeville Deputy Police Chief John Kornmann said they are not currently assigning fault for the crash, but that they think the SUV had the right-of-way. He said that according to state law, the car that was turning, the Malibu, would have been required to yield.
Clint Ward, 34, remains hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Relatives have been caring for the couple’s four daughters. He is a popular Twin Cities disc jockey.
Sara Ward worked in the Mall of America at the Rainforest Cafe restaurant.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said. They are checking for the speeds of the vehicles along with toxicology. The speed limit near the scene of the accident is 50 mph. Police say, however, that it appears to be an unfortunate accident.
