Drag Racing Blamed for Plano Crash that Killed Two Teens

Authorities say drag racing is two blame for a fiery crash that killed two Plano teens last month.

About the New Findings

KHOU reports that authorities now believe Lilly Davis, Samantha Sacks, and Kendall Murray, all 16, were involved in a drag race with another vehicle when the Porsche Macan they were traveling in lost control, struck the curb, and hit a tree on Mira Vista Boulevard.

Davis and Sack were killed in the fiery crash. Murray, who was found outside of the vehicle, remains hospitalized.

Police have not released information on the other vehicle involved in the race. The incident is still under investigation.

  • According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), 3,531 people were killed in traffic collisions in Texas in 2015. This marks little improvement over the 3.536 deaths reported in 2014.

  • An additional 246,335 people were injured in Texas traffic accidents in 2015. 17,011 people suffered serious injuries.
  • Based on reportable crash data for 2015, TxDOT estimated:
    • A person was killed in a traffic accident in Texas every 2 hours and 29 minutes.
    • A person was injured every 2 minutes and 8 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 61 seconds.
