According to Central Maine, a 21-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel, sparking a multiple-vehicle crash and several injuries in Farmington, Maine, on Tuesday afternoon.

All Three Vehicles Sustained Disabling Damage

Erik Dodge, 21, was driving his car north on U.S. Route 2 at around 2:30 p.m. local time when the injury accident occurred. Officials say the man fell asleep while driving and drifted into the southbound lane near Hight Chevrolet. An elderly woman driving south attempted to avoid Dodge but struck the rear of his car.

The elderly woman then struck another car traveling behind Dodge’s vehicle, reports Central Maine. All three cars were heavily damaged and required a tow from the accident scene. All three drivers and a passenger in the elderly woman’s car received treatment for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

According to Central Maine, it is unclear whether any of the occupants required hospitalization. Dodge was charged with failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
