Elderly Couple Slain in Crash involving Tractor-trailer in Suffolk, Virginia

According to WVEC, a man and woman sustained fatal injuries in a wreck with a tractor-trailer in Suffolk, Virginia, on Friday afternoon.

Details of the Trucking Accident

Robert E. Mitchell, 81, and Jean M. Mitchell, 77, were driving on Route 58 when the accident occurred. Although the details of the collision are still not known, the husband and wife collided with a big rig near the Wilroy Road exit at around 5:53 p.m. local time.

WVEC reports that the elderly couple required extrication from their vehicle. Both of the victims sustained serious injuries in the crash. One of the Mitchells received an airlift to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Jean and Robert Mitchell succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, according to WVEC. The semi-truck driver did not suffer from injuries. The crash is currently still under investigation.
