A group of 4th graders released more than 40 balloons Thursday in remembrance of Jennifer Runnels, a Lone Star Elementary teacher who was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon.
According to ABC 13, the accident occurred near Honea Egypt Road just outside of Montgomery.
DPS reports indicate the driver of another vehicle, Floyd Nelms, was traveling westbound on FM 2854 when he struck a vehicle carrying Runnels and her 10-year-old daughter.
Nelms was killed in the accident and Runnels died shortly after being transported to Conroe Regional Hospital. Runnels’ daughter was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital where she remains listed in critical condition.
Authorities are trying to determine what caused Nelms to drift into oncoming traffic. An autopsy has been ordered.
