Off-duty Police Officer Killed in Two-car Wreck

According to the Ventura County Star, a woman is dead and three others injured in a car crash in Simi Valley, California, early Sunday morning.

Crash involved Uber Driver, Passenger

The fatal wreck occurred at around 2:11 a.m. local time near the intersection of Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street. Two vehicles collided at the intersection, one of which failed to stop for a red light. Heather Monroe, 30, was a passenger in the vehicle that crashed into another car.

Monroe, an off-duty Simi Valley police officer, died at the scene of the crash. Three others were injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital for treatment, reports the Ventura County Star. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Officials say Monroe was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to the Ventura County Star, the other car was being used as an Uber at the time of the crash. Officials say no arrests have been made or charges been filed in the deadly accident. The scene of the wreck was under investigation for 11 hours following the incident.
