Officials Reviewing Surveillance Videos for Clues

California Highway Patrol believes a vehicle illegally passed a Toyota Camry traveling north over a solid double-yellow line on La Grange Road around 4:30 p.m. local time. A Lexus SUV traveling south at the same time swerved to avoid the driver, driving into the shoulder and overturning onto the roadway.

According to The Modesto Bee, the Toyota Camry slammed into the roof of the flipped Lexus SUV. The driver of the Lexus, 16-year-old Trista Hoffman, and her mother, 51-year-old Tina Hoffman, died in the collision. A passenger in the Toyota Camry, 72-year-old Rheinholt Eisemann, received treatment at Sonora Regional Medical Center but died from his injuries.

Three other passengers in the vehicles sustained minor to major injuries, reports The Modesto Bee.

Police believe the vehicle that caused the crash is a white 2014-2016 model year Acura crossover SUV.
