Recall Issued for Infant Ibuprofen

A recall has been issued for liquid infant ibuprofen sold as major retailers including Walmart, CVS, and Family Dollar because the drug may contain a higher concentrations of ibuprofen than indicated on product labels.

Recalled Ibuprofen Could Cause Permanent Kidney Damage to Children

WANE reports that the recall affects three lots of product from New Jersey-based Tris Pharma.

The high concentration of ibuprofen contained in the medications could result in children suffering serious adverse reactions including permanent kidney injuries, stomach ulcers, and even elevated blood pressure.

Other adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and diarrhea. Tinnitus, headache, and gastrointestinal bleeding may also occur.

Recalled products are labeled “Infants’ Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID) 50 mg per 1.25 mL.
