Jeffery “Jeff” K. Work
Hon. Jeff Work joined Thomas J. Henry in September 2019 after 30 years of legal practice in Houston, Texas.
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Mr. Work attended Oklahoma Baptist University then Baylor University School of Law. In 1996, Mr. Work became Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law which requires multiple trials as a lead counsel then passing a rigorous written exam. For many years, Mr. Work represented large corporations and insurance companies in litigation, but he is now thankful to be representing individuals in trials. He considers it an honor to be the advocate for men and women who have been injured by others’ wrongful acts. His extensive trial experience serves his clients well.
Mr. Work was elected Judge of the 189th Civil District Court in Harris County, Texas, in November 1998, then re-elected in November 2002. He served until April 2003, when he voluntarily returned to private practice. The time on the bench was invaluable in giving Mr. Work deeper insight into the trial process. Considered a rarity, Mr. Work has also served on three different juries of trials lasting more than two weeks.
Mr. Work has been involved in numerous committees for both the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Bar Association including several years of service as an Associate Editor for the magazine, The Houston Lawyer. He has been rated as AV Preeminent (highest possible rating) through Martindale-Hubbell/LexisNexis for 20 years. In 2004, Mr. Work completed the A.A. White School of Mediation Training, then began serving as a mediator and arbitrator on dozens of cases.
Mr. Work and his wife Jan have three adult children: Marine First Lieutenant Joe Work and his wife, Cidnye, are stationed in North Carolina; Rachel Work Christensen and her husband, Ryan, live in Houston, Texas; and the Works’ youngest, Rebecca Work, is a senior in college.
