Scott Nelson

Mr. Scott Nelson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February 1993, rising to the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in November 1998. He received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Maryland in 1999 and was commissioned as a Naval Flight Officer through Officer Candidate School in 2005 with follow on orders to attend Navy Flight Training.
Upon completion of P-3 flight training in Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Nelson reported to his first P-3 Orion Squadron where he completed two combat deployments to Iraq. Mr. Nelson qualified as Navigator Communicator, Tactical Coordinator, and Mission Commander.
Mr. Nelson served as Operations Officer for Maritime Expeditionary Squadron based in Guam. As the Operations Officer, he planned and deployed 53 Embarked Security Team Missions to the South and East China Seas. Mr. Nelson also coordinated eight international Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training events.
Mr. Nelson served as the Assistant Strike Officer on board the aircraft carrier, USS RONALD REAGAN. During this assignment, he qualified as Officer of the Deck (Underway) and Anti-Terrorism Watch Officer. Before leaving USS RONALD REAGAN, Mr. Nelson was selected to be the Flag Aide for Commander Navy Region Hawaii and Commander Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam in Hawaii.
During his time as Flag Aide, Mr. Nelson served two different Commanders, coordinated travel, and worked hand-in-hand with the Protocol staff on all events, including hosting RIMPAC and other high-level engagements with foreign dignitaries, high-level civilian, and military officials as well as hosting numerous congressional staff delegations.
In 2016, Mr. Nelson was honorably discharged from active duty and affiliated with the Navy Reserves.
Mr. Nelson graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in May 2020 and is licensed to practice law in Texas.
During law school, Mr. Nelson interned with USAA researching property and casualty insurance laws for different states. Mr. Nelson also interned with several San Antonio-based law firms, where he drafted pleadings, motions, and discovery requests and responses.
After receiving his license, Mr. Nelson practiced Family Law in San Antonio.
Mr. Nelson’s personal awards include two Air Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal, six Navy Commendation Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Outside of work, Mr. Nelson is happily married to his wife of 29 years, Debra. They have two children, Amanda and Ryan. Amanda is a corporate recruiter and Ryan is a cadet at the Texas A&M Maritime Academy.
